Forbes has ranked the top ten richest US celebrities of the year 2018. The celebrities on the top ten list have an estimated combined asset of $18.7 billion which is more than the gross domestic product of Iceland according to Forbes.
The 74-year old filmmaker George Lucas has topped his position at number one on the Forbes Magazine’s third annual ranking of the wealthiest celebrities of U.S. which was published on Tuesday.
The creator of the space saga, Lucas’s net worth was estimated to be $5.4 billion which leads the Forbes Magazine’s ranking in 2018.
According to Forbes, the credit for Lucas’s top ranking goes to the $4.05 billion sale of his production company, “ LucasFilm” to Walt Disney in 2012 and also his well-known movie franchise, “Star Wars” empire.
For this list eligibility was limited to American citizens who have gotten rich mostly off their fame. The amount figures of celebrities on the Forbes list are estimated on the basis of their known holdings of real estate, shares of companies on both public and private level, other assets and their lifetime earnings. In general, Reuters has not confirmed the estimated net worth independently.
Lucas’s fellow filmmaker, the 72-year old Steven Spielberg came in second on the Forbes list with an estimated net worth of $3.7 billion. Spielberg’s career as a filmmaker spans about 50 years along with his amazing creations that include “Jaws”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, “E.T.”, “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
The richest female celebrity was 64-year old Oprah Winfrey whose acting and media enterprises have contributed to a net worth estimated to be $2.8 billion which ensured her position as the third richest celebrity on the list.
Basketball legend, Michael Jordan net worth was estimated to be $1.7 billion ranking him fourth on the list. Jordan’s earning apart from his basketball games come from his 34-year long sneaker deal with Nike Inc. and his stake in the Charlotte Hornets.
Kylie Jenner, who is new to the list has tied with rapper Jay Z at fifth position with a net worth estimated to be $900 million. Forbes said that the 21 year old Jenner is the youngest self-made billionaire ever.
Other celebrities on the list are David Copperfield (Net worth – $875 million), Sean “Diddy” Combs (Net worth – $825 million), Tiger Woods (Net worth – $800 million) and James Patterson (Net worth – $800 million).
